We use it to make sure if the sentence is correct or not.
If the sentence is positive the tag question should be negative.
The sentence: She is happy.
The tag question: isn't she?
There are 15 helping verbs in English if we see them in a sentence we put the verb then not then the pronoun.
The helping verbs: am, is, are, was, were, have, has, had, can, could, will, would, shall, should, must
Examples:
1. I am happy, aren't you?
2. She is reading a book, isn't she?
3. They are playing tennis, aren't they?
4. Sara was sick, wasn't she?
5. Ali and Ahmed were walking on the beach, weren't they?
6. We can clean the house, can't you?
7. I will go to the park, won't you?
8. He should wear heavy clothes, shouldn't he?
9. Birds could fly in the sky, couldn't they?
But if there are verbs like: eat, drink, wash, read, run, speak………etc, we use (do, does or did)+not the pronoun.
we use (don't) if the verb in the present and with no (S).
Example:
1) The boys write their homework's, don't they?
If the verb is in the present and with (S) we use doesn't in the tag question.
Example:
2) She speaks English well, doesn't she?
If the verb is in the past tense we use didn't.
Example:
3. He asked me a difficult question, didn't he?
